Out and About in JL
South Recreation Area and Butterfly Island
A charming park, fully equipped for your enjoyment, is located with fresh water on one side and salt water on the other, just off Casseekey Island Road between Lantern Bay and Southporte. There are cookout facilities, including shelters, tables, grills and restrooms, along with play equipment for youngsters. Parking is provided and no reservations are required unless you would like to secure the park for a party for a certain amount of time. If so, please call the POA office at (561) 743-2032.
Adjacent to the park is Butterfly Island, accessible by a wooden walkway. The island is a rather wild, natural habitat for birds and butterflies. The gazebos at the end of the island are a quiet and peaceful place for appreciating the beauty of Jonathan’s Landing.
Canoe/Kayak racks located on the island and docking platform are available for small boat storage.
The fresh waterways are stocked with bass and you are welcome to fish. Please remember it is “catch and release”.
